Have you tried improving an element in your life but were not able to succeed? Try focusing on the habits related to an area in your life you want to improve. Improving a habit can directly translate to improving your life.\r\n\r\nLet me give you three suggestions:\r\n\r\n1. Pick an area in your life you want to improve. Make yourself accountable, to yourself or others, privately or publicly, about your commitment to improve. Maximize the odds of success by choosing an area that is truly important to you. Analyze and be clear on why this area is important to you. Check my blog post on developing your accountability muscles if you want some tips on this topic.\r\n\r\n2. Find the root-cause that explains why you are not getting the results you want. Is there a bad habit that is preventing you from making your desired progress? Try to understand both the habit and the factors that led you to establish it. The more information you gather, the higher the likelihood of succeeding.\r\n\r\n3. Start with small increments. Stopping bad habits or starting new ones is not easy. Consider a gradual approach. If you want to wake up an hour earlier, start with 5- to 10-minute increments. If you want to read more, try a short book on a topic that is of high interest to you. If you want to eat healthier, try adding one new healthy (and tasty) food at a time.\r\n\r\nI will be providing more insights and suggestions on this topic in my blog posts during July. They will be published every Monday.\r\n\r\nI want to close this newsletter with three quotes that stress the importance of habits:\r\n\r\n• “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” (Aristotle)\r\n• “Men’s natures are alike; it is their habits that separate them.” (Confucius)\r\n• “Bad habits are easier to abandon today than tomorrow.” (Yiddish proverb)\r\n\r\nAs you embark on this journey, count on me to help you succeed.\r\n\r\nPercy M.
